Late Mr. Ashwin S. Dani

Mr. Ashwin Suryakant Dani, Founder and Chairman of Hitech Group of Companies was a visionary and a technocrat with a clear focus on innovation led manufacturing of rigid plastic packaging material. His sound financial strategies, strong team building abilities and nurturing attitude to young minds helped foster an environment of innovative contribution and scientific temperament within all ranks of the organisation which led to the robust growth of the Hitech Group. His humility shone through and was apparent in the adulation and respect he received from his people.

 

After having completed his Bachelor of Science from the Institute of Science, University of Mumbai and Bachelor of Science and Technology in pigments, paints and varnish from UDCT (now known as ICT), Mumbai, he completed his Master's in polymer science from University of Akron, Ohio, United States and Diploma in colour science from Rensselaer Polytechnic, Troy, New York, United States. He then gained work experience as a Development Chemist with Inmont Corp. (now known as BASF) in Detroit, USA, a major supplier of automotive OEM and refinishes.

 

Due to his strong belief in the Indian values which were imparted to him by his family while growing up he was always an Indian at heart and decided to return to India. He took it upon himself to make a mark on the Indian landscape. He recognised the value of education that he had received and was determined to impart the same through technological advances in the Indian diaspora. He joined Asian Paints in 1968 as a Senior Executive and then successfully moved up the ladder to attain senior positions like Director-R&D, Works Director, Whole-time Director, Managing Director and Vice Chairman.

 

Mr. Ashwin Dani was the main Architect in the development and introduction of many products for the first time in India including the concept of Computerised Colour matching and Indigenous Paint Technology, a concept which now is widely used in various sectors like paints, plastics, textiles and printing inks.

Through his social initiatives he made many crossroads to empower marginalized communities by addressing critical social, economic and environmental challenges.

 

He was an ardent yoga practitioner and a disciple of the world famous Yogacharya, B.K.S. Iyengar. Having realized the potential of yoga to transform humanity itself, he contributed to the spread of yoga through various initiatives.

 

His legacy is being carried forward by his family headed by the matriarch Mrs Ina Ashwin Dani.

Mr. Jayendra R. Shah

Chairman & Non-Executive Non- Independent Director

Mr. Jayendra Shah is a Technocrat and entrepreneur having over 50 years experience in Plastics and Speciality Chemicals. He is a BSc (Hons), BSc (Tech) & MSc (Tech) in plastics. 

 

He is the founder of JayVee Organics & Polymers Pvt. Ltd. Earlier, he served as a Director of Colortech India Pvt. Ltd., Bluebell Polymers Pvt. Ltd. and Enteck Polymers Limited. Currently, he is an Independent Director of Hitech Corporation Limited since 2013, its holding Company, Geetanjali Trading & Investments Limited and Goldstab Organics Pvt. Ltd. He was recognized by Manjushree Technopack Ltd. for his outstanding contribution to the plastics packaging industry. He is also a board member of the Institute of Chemical Technology (formerly UDCT).

 

He has served as a Board member and Vice Chairman of the Indian Institute of Packaging, Founder Chairman and President of Indian Plastic Institute, Vice President of Polymer Processing Academy and Member of the Board of Central Institute of Plastic Engineering & Technology (CIPET).

 

He was conferred with the Distinguished Alumnus Award of Institute of Chemical Technology (formerly UDCT), recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from Indian Plastic Institute and Lifetime Achievement Award from Modern Plastic India publication. He was also the Founder Treasurer of PlastIndia Foundation. Mr. Shah has a vast and rich experience in the field of manufacturing and marketing of plastic products and speciality and fine chemicals.

Mrs. Ina A. Dani

Vice-Chairperson & Non-Executive Director

Mrs. Ina Ashwin Dani is a member of the Promoter group of Hitech Corporation Limited and has earlier served on the Board of Directors of Hitech Corporation Limited. She has been a director of Hitech Corporation from its inception in 1991 up to February 1993 and again from January 2010 to June 2015.

 

She is also a promoter director of Hitech Specialities Solutions Pvt Ltd. (HSSL), a speciality chemicals manufacturing and distribution company. HSSL has forged exclusive partnerships with global principals and provides customised solutions to individual customer needs whilst catering to a large customer base. She has been a director of HSSL from March 1998 till date. She is also a member of the Promoter group of Asian Paints Limited and has served on the Board of Asian Paints Limited, the market leader of the paint industry in India, as a Non-executive Director from March 1999 to July 2001 and again from July 2010 to October 2013.

 

She is a staunch practitioner and trainer of Iyengar Yoga and believes in spreading the practice of yoga globally for the wellbeing of mankind. Mrs. Dani is a Trustee in many Charitable Trusts and is the founder of ‘Homevilla Yoga’ which was established in 1994 and conducts yoga classes through dedicated professionals. Internationally she is renowned for teaching prenatal yoga to expectant mothers.

 

She is a philanthropist connected with various social causes and organisations. All who have been associated with her rightly point out that her greatest strength is her ability to connect with all through her humility and empathy.

Mr. Malav A. Dani

Managing Director

Mr. Malav Dani holds Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University and MBA from Columbia University USA. His education was rounded off with a six-year stint at General Electric (GE), during which he completed the Information Management Leadership (MLP) program as well as the Quality Six Sigma Black Belt Program. He worked with GE’s Corporate Treasury department and the project he helmed won the Alexander Hamilton Corporate Treasury Award.

 

Mr. Malav Dani joined Hitech Corporation Limited as a Director in 2008. He was appointed as a Joint Managing Director on the Board of the Company in 2011 and was redesignated as the Managing Director of the Company in November 2012. His focus and experience in Six Sigma has permeated down to the entire organisation resulting in process focus ultimately culminating in enhanced customer satisfaction.

 

With his expertise in managing diverse businesses with strategic thinking and an entrepreneurial approach for business excellence, he has been the guiding force behind various initiatives across the organisation. These initiatives are spread across various domains of talent acquisition and retention, operations, corporate governance, finance and marketing.

A prime example of this is the set up of the Gurukul initiative which supports knowledge transfer at every level of the organisation and creates a sense of ownership for quality delivery.

 

His indomitable belief in the World being One Family (Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam) has seen him work with missionary zeal on various sustainability projects both internally and externally ensuring the preservation of Mother Earth for generations to come.

 

His untiring efforts have been acknowledged through various awards and positions held by him. Some of which are as follows:

• Chairman of Ease of Doing Business Committee of Indian Merchants Chamber from 2015 – 2018 where he had an opportunity to present the Roadmap for India to improve its Ease of Doing Business ranking to the Joint Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce of Rajya Sabha.
• Chairman of Young Leaders Forum Committee of Indian Merchants Chamber from 2009- 2013. During his tenure, Mr. Malav Dani was felicitated by Mr. Narendra Modi in 2010.
• Member of the council of management of Forum of Free Enterprise, a non-political and non-partisan organisation established in 1956 to educate public opinion in India on free enterprise and it’s close relationship with the democratic way of life.

Mr. Dani was invited to make a presentation on World Peace to American Council of Young Political Leaders, an initiative of the Trump administration.

 

Being a karma yogi himself, he has initiated various projects for the promotion of yoga, including Sab Ka Mangal Ho Foundation, the CSR arm of the company which imparts yoga education to underprivileged children in orphanages.

Mr. Bomi P. Chinoy is a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in the year 1967, Mr. Chinoy, served in reputed Companies in India. He worked in the Tata group for a period of 35 years in various capacities. His expertise in Corporate Finance, Company Law, Income Tax law, Secretarial and Administrative etc. are more beneficial to the Company. After his retirement from Tata Chemicals Ltd., he also served as CEO of Tatachem Golden Jubilee Foundation (Charitable Trust) for 10 years.

 

Mr. Chinoy has vast & rich experience in the field of Accounts, Finance, Taxation, Corporate governance and General Administration.

Ms. Kalpana V. Merchant

Independent Director

Ms. Kalpana V. Merchant is a senior partner at Jerome Merchant & Partners. Ms. Merchant has over thirty-five years of experience as a solicitor. Prior to Jerome Merchant & Partners, she was a partner at Kanga & Co and AZB & Partners, Mumbai. Her expertise is in the area of real estate, dispute resolution and banking and finance laws with her being recognized as a leading individual in Real Estate and Construction by Legal 500 in the Real Estate Sector by Chambers and was ranked as one of the top 100 lawyers in India by Vantage Asia. She has vast experience in various fields of law including real estate, M&A, banking and finance and private wealth management. Ms. Merchant graduated with a degree in law from the Government Law College, Mumbai and is a qualified Solicitor and Notary.

Dr. Prakash D. Trivedi

Independent Director

Dr. Prakash D. Trivedi was Head of SBU Polymers of Gharda Chemicals Ltd from 1990 to 2006. He helped develop many Specialty Plastics like PES (4th producer in the World), PSU & PPSU (3rd producer in the World), sulfone block copolymers PSS-B, PSS-T, and Electrophilic PEEK (First time in the World). The manufacturing plant came up at Panoli, Gujarat in 1997/98 and was bought by Solvay in 2006. He also helped developed from 2011 till date at Gharda, PEK. PEKK PEI and ABPBI, which are currently being manufactured by Gharda at Panoli, Gujarat and the products are being marketed the world over. Gharda is now only one of two manufacturers of PEI, PEK and PEKK and only single manufacturer of ABPBI Fiber in the world. His development work of Polyehter Imide is resulting in a production plant for about 1000 MTA at Panoli to be commissioned by 1Q 2024. Gharda Chemicals was recipient, just for polymer developments, of ICC Sir P. C. Ray awards for Technology developments in 1998, 2001, 2005, 2012 and 2019; PlastIndia Plasticon awards for New Products in 1999, 2002, 2005, 2012 and 2015; FICCI award for New Product in 2005 and Ministry of Chemical & Fertilizer Innovative Product Award in 2012. 

 

Dr. Prakash Trivedi was the MD of Solvay Specialties India Pvt. Ltd. from May 2006 till March 2009 and Sr. Advisor of Solvay Belgium on Sustainable Chemistry & Director R&D Solvay Asia in 2009 - 2011. In Solvay, he worked on Specialty & Engineering Plastics and Green Chemistry area and helped finalize its R&D Centre at Savli, Gujarat.. Dr. Trivedi has been awarded ICC D. M. Trivedi Lifetime Achievement Award for Contribution to Chemical Industry on 15th Sept. 2023. He is also recipient of Prof. M. Santappa Memorial Award by Society of Polymer science in 2020 and a Distinguished Alumnus Award by UDCT (now ICT) and is an adjunct professor at ICT since 2019. 

 

He served as Chairman of Indian Plastics Institute’s Governing Council from 2002 to 2004. He is a Fellow of IPI and was recently bestowed Lifetime Achievement Award by IPI in March 2023. He has about 40 National & International Patents, & 50 technical publications and 90 Presentations in International & National stage. He is also the member of American Chemical Society from 1972 till present. 

 

He wrote a monograph on Specialty Thermoplastics published recently in 2023 by Hanser, a leading European Publishing house specializing in books on plastics. He is now writing a monograph on Polymer Production Technology. He was the Hon. Editor of CHEMICAL NEWS of Indian Chemical Council from July 2014 – June 2022. Dr. Trivedi has published 6 Novels & 1 Play in Gujarati, & a book 'PVC Technology', coauthored with Arvind Athalye. He is an active member of Society Of Plastics Engineers and Rotary Club of Bombay West.

Dr. Anjan C. Ray

Independent Director

Dr. Ray received his Doctorate in Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania under the guidance of Nobel Laureate Prof. Alan MacDiarmid. He worked for over 30 years across functions ranging from Quality Control, Technical Service, R&D and Marketing to General Management, Mergers & Acquisitions and Corporate Strategy in chemical and energy industries.

 

His professional interests have spanned fields as diverse as surfactants, oleochemicals, paints, adhesives, textiles, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, water treatment, energy efficiency, biofuels and renewable energy policy. He superannuated from the position of Director – CSIR-Indian Institute of Petroleum in 2023 and is currently the Chairman of the Petroleum, Coal and Related Products Division Council (PCDC) of the Bureau of Indian Standards.

 

Apart from his professional career in chemical technology, Dr. Ray has an active interest in media, education, heritage and environmental conservation for over 3 decades.

Mr. Aditya M. Sheth is a double major in Chemical Engineering (Columbia) and Economics (Denison). Mr. Mehernosh Mehta has done his B.E. in Electrical Engineering from Mumbai University, and a Masters in Electrical Engineering from Michigan Technological University. He has vast experience in the operations of manufacturing companies, handling human resources and general administration. Ms. Kalpana V. Merchant is a senior partner at Jerome Merchant & Partners. Ms. Merchant has over thirty-five years of experience as a solicitor. Prior to Jerome Merchant & Partners, she was a partner at Kanga & Co and AZB & Partners, Mumbai. Her expertise is in the area of real estate, dispute resolution and banking and finance laws with her being recognized as a leading individual in Real Estate and Construction by Legal 500 in the Real Estate Sector by Chambers and was ranked as one of the top 100 lawyers in India by Vantage Asia. She has vast experience in various fields of law including real estate, M&A, banking and finance and private wealth management. Dr. Anjan C. Ray

Dr. Ray received his Doctorate in Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania under the guidance of Nobel Laureate Prof. Alan MacDiarmid. He worked for over 30 years across functions ranging from Quality Control, Technical Service, R&D and Marketing to General Management, Mergers & Acquisitions and Corporate Strategy in chemical and energy industries.

 

His professional interests have spanned fields as diverse as surfactants, oleochemicals, paints, adhesives, textiles, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, water treatment, energy efficiency, biofuels and renewable energy policy. He superannuated from the position of Director – CSIR-Indian Institute of Petroleum in 2023 and is currently the Chairman of the Petroleum, Coal and Related Products Division Council (PCDC) of the Bureau of Indian Standards.

 

Apart from his professional career in chemical technology, Dr. Ray has an active interest in media, education, heritage and environmental conservation for over 3 decades.

Mr. Aditya M. Sheth is a double major in Chemical Engineering (Columbia) and Economics (Denison). He has also been in the Honors Program, Member of Engineering Honor Society – Tau Beta Pi, Member of Economic Honor Society – Omicron Delta Epsilon, recognised for Delta Chi Honor cords, member of the Order of Omega. He has also completed an International Baccalaureate Diploma from The United World College of India, Pune.

 

Presently he is Director in the Engineering Division of Galiakotwala Group, managing the full spectrum of activities for engineering, manufacturing and installation of equipment for major chemical companies in India and abroad.

 

He has also worked with UBS Investment Bank as an Analyst for almost 2 years and has performed comparable financial analysis for companies in the chemical sector for valuation, created financial models to simulate cyclical operations through available financial information, conducted extensive business, financial due diligence and drafted confidential information. Creating presentations for clients to pitch merger and acquisition ideas, refinancing, IPO and dual-track processes.

Mr. Malav A. Dani

Mr. Malav Dani holds Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University and MBA from Columbia University USA. His education was rounded off with a six-year stint at General Electric (GE), during which he completed the Information Management Leadership (MLP) program as well as the Quality Six Sigma Black Belt Program. He worked with GE’s Corporate Treasury department and the project he helmed won the Alexander Hamilton Corporate Treasury Award.

 

Mr. Malav Dani joined Hitech Corporation Limited as a Director in 2008. He was appointed as a Joint Managing Director on the Board of the Company in 2011 and was redesignated as the Managing Director of the Company in November 2012. His focus and experience in Six Sigma has permeated down to the entire organisation resulting in process focus ultimately culminating in enhanced customer satisfaction.

 

With his expertise in managing diverse businesses with strategic thinking and an entrepreneurial approach for business excellence, he has been the guiding force behind various initiatives across the organisation. These initiatives are spread across various domains of talent acquisition and retention, operations, corporate governance, finance and marketing.

A prime example of this is the set up of the Gurukul initiative which supports knowledge transfer at every level of the organisation and creates a sense of ownership for quality delivery.

Dr. Prakash D. Trivedi

Dr. Prakash D. Trivedi was Head of SBU Polymers of Gharda Chemicals Ltd from 1990 to 2006. He helped develop many Specialty Plastics like PES (4th producer in the World), PSU & PPSU (3rd producer in the World), sulfone block copolymers PSS-B, PSS-T, and Electrophilic PEEK (First time in the World). The manufacturing plant came up at Panoli, Gujarat in 1997/98 and was bought by Solvay in 2006. He also helped developed from 2011 till date at Gharda, PEK. PEKK PEI and ABPBI, which are currently being manufactured by Gharda at Panoli, Gujarat and the products are being marketed the world over. Gharda is now only one of two manufacturers of PEI, PEK and PEKK and only single manufacturer of ABPBI Fiber in the world. His development work of Polyehter Imide is resulting in a production plant for about 1000 MTA at Panoli to be commissioned by 1Q 2024. Gharda Chemicals was recipient, just for polymer developments, of ICC Sir P. C. Ray awards for Technology developments in 1998, 2001, 2005, 2012 and 2019; PlastIndia Plasticon awards for New Products in 1999, 2002, 2005, 2012 and 2015; FICCI award for New Product in 2005 and Ministry of Chemical & Fertilizer Innovative Product Award in 2012. 

 

Dr. Prakash Trivedi was the MD of Solvay Specialties India Pvt. Ltd. from May 2006 till March 2009 and Sr. Advisor of Solvay Belgium on Sustainable Chemistry & Director R&D Solvay Asia in 2009 - 2011. In Solvay, he worked on Specialty & Engineering Plastics and Green Chemistry area and helped finalize its R&D Centre at Savli, Gujarat.. Dr. Trivedi has been awarded ICC D. M. Trivedi Lifetime Achievement Award for Contribution to Chemical Industry on 15th Sept. 2023. He is also recipient of Prof. M. Santappa Memorial Award by Society of Polymer science in 2020 and a Distinguished Alumnus Award by UDCT (now ICT) and is an adjunct professor at ICT since 2019. 

 

He served as Chairman of Indian Plastics Institute’s Governing Council from 2002 to 2004. He is a Fellow of IPI and was recently bestowed Lifetime Achievement Award by IPI in March 2023. He has about 40 National & International Patents, & 50 technical publications and 90 Presentations in International & National stage. He is also the member of American Chemical Society from 1972 till present. 

 

He wrote a monograph on Specialty Thermoplastics published recently in 2023 by Hanser, a leading European Publishing house specializing in books on plastics. He is now writing a monograph on Polymer Production Technology. He was the Hon. Editor of CHEMICAL NEWS of Indian Chemical Council from July 2014 – June 2022. Dr. Trivedi has published 6 Novels & 1 Play in Gujarati, & a book 'PVC Technology', coauthored with Arvind Athalye. He is an active member of Society Of Plastics Engineers and Rotary Club of Bombay West.
